There can be times when life really starts to take over and it can get a bit overwhelming. If you are looking for a new way that you can relieve a good deal of stress while improving your overall health, you may want to think about starting your very own garden. Believe it or not, there is a lot to be said about the impact of gardening, from the planning out and planting to the tending and then enjoying the yield.
Gardening is also a very popular hobby with a lot of people who like to have a way to enjoy life and relieve the stress that can come from day to day living. There are so many benefits that you can experience along the way and there truly is little or no downside at all to creating your own amazing garden space.
Gardening Should Never Become A Chore
Just as any other type of venture that you take on, gardening is something that you should enjoy. Some people love to do yoga or painting while some do not. The same idea goes for the art of gardening. If this is something that you are interested in and enthusiastic about, you could find that it can be an incredibly beneficial process all the way around. Simply be realistic about the amount of time and space that you have to put into your gardening efforts. The moment that the planting and maintenance becomes more of a chore, you are defeating the purpose of all of the wonder and rewards that a garden can provide. The goal is to cut back on stress, not to add to it.
Knowing The Benefits Of Gardening
Creating a flower garden, planting a few vegetables or even setting up a tray of herbs to grow in your kitchen window can all be a wonderful way to enjoy all that growing has to offer. There are a lot of incredible benefits that can come from gardening in all shapes and forms, so once you are ready to get started you just may notice some of the following:
- Exercise – Gardening of any type will take some level of physical exertion. When you are digging, leveling, planting, weeding, raking and harvesting what you have grown, you are moving your body. This movement can act as a physical outlet that will help you to relieve a lot of the tension that ends up getting stored within the body. Not only that, but you will more than likely not even realize exactly how much you are exercising while doing something that you enjoy.
- Sun and Fresh Air – When you are able to garden in a space outdoors, you will be taking in a good amount of fresh air and sunlight that is good for our health and mood. Soaking up the vitamin D can actually trigger a happy and balanced response in your brain.
- Calming Surroundings – The garden space that you create will be your own, almost like your special and private oasis where you can grow and nurture all of your plantings. Adding in decorative elements, such as a trellis, beautiful glass sculpture, garden stakes or anything else that your heart desires will only work to elevate the garden even more. This is something that will, in turn, foster a sense of calm while promoting overall wellbeing.
Starting Your Own Garden Space
Even if you have never gardened before, you will see that this can be a fun and rewarding experience. Start off small so that you are not going to feel intimidated or become overwhelmed. Your garden can eventually grow to be as big as you want it to be just as long as you are able to still care for it properly without starting to become too much of a task.
There are some garden enthusiasts that will spread their garden out over a large piece of land, while there are others who like the simplicity of a simple raised garden bed or container gardens that they can keep on their deck or patio area. You just have to be able to pick whatever feels right for you and do whatever your current space allows.
Think about planting the items that you love. If you are someone who does a lot of cooking, think about planting a wide variety of herbs and other organic vegetables. When flowers are something that you are passionate about, you can try your hand at an array of blooms. No matter what, it will be easier to remain excited about a garden space when you are able to enjoy all of the benefits of reaping items that you enjoy.
Making the time for your garden will always be key as any garden will need a good bit of maintenance and regular attention. Putting together a schedule that you can work with that coincides with the growing schedule for some of your favorite plants will be a great way to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
Never Be Afraid To Try Something New
A garden is only going to be as wonderful as the imagination that you put into it. Once you start to get the hang of growing certain plants, vegetables, herbs or flowers, there is nothing that should hold you back from dabbling in different varieties that you may have steered clear of in the past.
The thrill of gardening can open up a whole new world of experiences for you that you can then share with others around you. If you have children, think about getting them involved in this wonderful and rewarding hobby. Overall, you are going to find that gardening can be a tremendous way to add a whole lot of value and richness to your life.

Gardening can be so relaxing. Even after the seeds have been sown, the results enable pollinators to enjoy the garden, which adds to the serenity. We love our butterfly garden and all of the visitors we get because of it. We started small and grew our garden one season at a time. It is a source of great pleasure. Blessings…
I try something new each year. Last year I tried quinoa, but the critters ate it all before I could get it to produce. Scratch! This year I’m trying Jerusalem artichokes (no sprouts yet), blueberry bushes (lots of berries set and ripening already), and cantaloupe (in a large barrel on my deck). I try to do just a little bit of gardening at a time to make it not such a chore. I do not have much space since we live in a floating cabin. Here’s how I do it. http://powellriverbooks.blogspot.com/2015/09/summer-garden.html – Margy
