Living simple means so many different things for so many different people.  Some it means living off the grid, growing everything they eat, downsizing, homeschooling, or homesteading but for me it means finding ways to slow down and enjoy life…simply!

We have made great strides in simplifying our lives.  We downsized from a 2500 square foot house in town to a 1200 square foot house in the country.  We replaced store bought meat, eggs and vegetables with our own home grown.  We cleared the clutter from our lives by giving away mountains of stuff we had collected. We locked the credit cards away for emergencies and now are working on downsizing our budget.  We still have a long way to go, but as with everything in life it’s a process.

It doesn’t matter if you live in the city or on a farm, are a two income family or one there are things we all can do to simplify our lives. From eating healthy, to saving money, to getting back to the basics, it’s all in your attitude and the drive you have to take control of your life.

As we continue on our quest to simplify our lives I hope you will stop by each week and take the weekly Live Simple Challenge.

One of my favorite sayings is…Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.

Use it upThis weeks challenge is “Use it up”.

December for me has always been the month for over spending.  From buying too many presents to spending too much at the grocery store, it’s the one month of the year my budget literally cries. So for this week I will be cleaning out my pantry by using up what I have. My freezer is full and my pantry is stocked so other than milk, pet food, butter and fresh fruit and vegetables I will be shopping out of my pantry for the next couple weeks.

This first thing I did was take a good inventory of what I had on hand. That project forced me to clean out the refrigerator and re-organize the pantry.  I had things in the pantry I didn’t even know I had since it was really dis-organized.

It may be a real challenge for me since there are no quick and easy meals, but it will force me to use things up before buying anything else new.

So are you up for challenge #1?
