After a long hot morning of weeding, mowing, cleaning chicken houses and cleaning out the garden I needed something cool and refreshing.

I have been having to get all my work done outside early in the morning so I can retreat indoors when the afternoon temps reach 100 and today was no different.  Once I got inside and got cooled down I was looking for something cold to drink and I had enough water and I just needed something different.  So off to some of my favorite blogs looking for something I could make with the bowl of watermelon I had in the fridge.  Low and behold my blogs didn’t steer me wrong and I found a great watermelon lemonade on Homegrown and Beeyoutiful that fit the bill.  I used her recipe exactly and it is hitting the spot.

Watermelon Lemonade
Makes 1/2 gallon
1 cup lemon juice (I didn’t use fresh, I used Real Lemon)
2 cups fresh watermelon puree, strained through a coarse strainer to remove seeds
3/4 cup simple syrup*
3 cups cold water

Simple Syrup: I used 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water.  Bring to a boil, remove from heat and you will end up with 3/4 cup simple syrup.

Now that I have my nice cool summery drink and my yard work most of the way done I can stay indoors the rest of the day and take care of some of my marketing clients.  I might venture back outside after the sun goes down to finish mowing the yard but that is hours away!

Have a great day everyone!
