Homemade Dog Treats Your Dog Will Love
As much as we love our four-legged farm animals, we love and pamper our household pets even more. Our Libby-girl loves her homemade dog treats, and they’re a healthy cost-effective alternative to the pricey dog treats we could buy. Better yet I know exactly what the ingredients are in these homemade dog bones.
Easy to make and your dog will love them:
Step #1 – Add to a mixing bowl:
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon beef or chicken base
- 1/ 2 cup hot water
Step #2 – Mix until resembles crumbs and is completely mixed.
Step #3 – Form into a ball and knead for a minute on a floured surface.
Step #4 – Roll dough into a rectangle and cup out with your favorite metal cookie cutter. (The dough is tough, so you will need a heavy-duty cookie cutter.)
Step #5 – Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and bake treats in a 350-degree oven for 30 minutes. Let cool before storing in an airtight container.
Step #6 – Treat your favorite four-legged friend!

We have been looking for a recipe like this! We even got a dog bone cookie cutter for Christmas. I guess it is time to make some dog treats! 🙂
I found my dog cookie cutter years ago and just love it! I am sure our dog would not know the difference between a Christmas tree or a dog bone cut out, but I do!
What is beef or chicken base? you mean bouillon powder?
Katie beef base is in the same isle as the powder, but you can use a teaspoon of powdered as well and it works just fine.
Thank you for the recipe – looking forward to trying this with our dogs. They love their treats but this seems a much healthier option than what we do now. Our one dog has a bit of a sensitive stomach, so I am interested to see how she does with them.
These look like something my dog would love! I need to make these soon. I just got a bone shaped cookie cutter.
What a great idea, thanks for sharing at Good morning mondays. Blessings
Tracy,
These are awesome! I was just reading the headlines about yet another dog abandoned and neglected…It kills me! check out our “Rocco” at 5littlemonkeys.me. He’s anything but neglected too…I will give your gourmet dog treats a try.
I see those abandoned dog stories all the time and it really pulls at my heart strings!
My Layla, my dog will really love this recipe. Maybe your doggies will love my Layla’s favorite treat??
